BLENDED CLASSROOM=a classroom approach that incorporates digital technology, flipped classroom, face to face instruction, and project based learning along with preparation for 21st century challenges. Students are responsible for their own learning and can control the time, place, and pace of learning while still having face to face and more traditional forms of support from the teacher.
COLLABORATIVE LEARNING PLATFORM=a teaching method that will include collaboration (working with others), communication (clearly and effectively), creativity (because all students are creative), and critical thinking (problem solving skills) which will help students prepare for the world of college and a career.
PBL (Project Based Learning)=According to the Buck Institute for Education, PBL is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to a complex question,
problem, or challenge. Essential Elements of PBL include:- Significant Content - At its core, the project is focused on teaching students important knowledge and skills, derived from standards and key concepts at the heart of academic subjects.
- 21st century competencies - Students build competencies valuable for today’s world, such as critical thinking/problem solving, collaboration, communication, and creativity/ innovation, which are taught and assessed.
- In-Depth Inquiry - Students are engaged in a rigorous, extended process of asking questions, using resources, and developing answers.
- Driving Question - Project work is focused by an open-ended question that students understand and find intriguing, which captures their attention
or frames their exploration. - Need to Know - Students see the need to gain knowledge, understand concepts, and apply skills in order to answer the Driving Question and create project products, beginning with an Entry Event that generates interest and curiosity.
- Voice and Choice - Students are allowed to make some
choices about the products to be created, how they work, and how they use their
time, guided by the teacher and depending on age level and PBL experience. - Revision and Reflection - The project includes processes for students to use feedback to consider additions and changes that lead to high-quality products, and think about what and how they are learning.
- Public Audience - Students present their work to other
people, beyond their classmates and teacher.
Virtual Classroom = is an online learning environment. The environment can be web-based and accessed through a portal or software-based and require a downloadable executable file.
Digital Classroom = a classroom in which digital technology including personally owned devices, iPads, laptops, desktop PCs, cell phones, and other technologies are used to promote learning and communication among students and teachers.
Flipped Classroom = lectures and workshops are presented in an online, easily accessible format so that students can watch and re-watch the instruction. Then, in the classroom environment, teachers work closely with students on activities, research, practice, and presentations so that students have the support necessary to learn from mistakes and to be successful.
Differentiated Instruction = Individual, personalized instruction provided by on line programs that support student learning precisely what, where, and how the individual student needs it.
All of these 21st century classroom methodologies are incorporated in our classroom to provide students with every opportunity to be successful and to prepare for their future, their college, and their career.
